Two Wexford natives were on trial with an English League One side today..

North End goalkeeper Charlie Heffernan and his club counterpart Robin Dempsey were both on trial with Doncaster Rovers today in England.

Doncaster Rovers FC compete in EFL League One which is the third tier of the English football league system.

Today, Doncaster Rovers were playing Wakefield AFC and they enjoyed a 6-0 victory.

Wexford CBS tweeted their best wishes to the two Wexford players who were on trial:

“We wish the best of luck to past pupils Charlie Heffernan and Robin Dempsey who had trials today in England with Doncaster Rovers v Wakefield Town,” they said.

Altogether, eight trialists were used in Doncaster’s win against Wakefield AFC. The Doncaster manager, Richie Wellens, opted to use an array of trialists after Covid-19 cases caused a disruption to their usual team-sheet.
