Another Match To Take Place Before Wexford-Kilkenny Historic Floodlight Game

There’s a lot of excitement building towards the return of this year’s Walsh Cup campaign…

Not only will Wexford fans be looking forward to the return of inter-county action, but they’ll also be excited to see the new floodlights at Chadwicks Wexford Park in action.

The floodlights will be unveiled ahead of Wexford’s Walsh Cup clash versus the old enemy, Kilkenny, who will be under their new manager, Derek Lyng. There is such an excitement building for that game which takes place on Saturday January 21st at 6pm, with over 4,000 tickets already been sold for the clash.

It will likely be the highest ever attendance at a Walsh Cup game, while Wexford GAA believe that it could be a sell-out on the night.

It promises to be a great spectacle, with Wexford GAA chairman, Micháel Martin, previously stating that there will be an array of events taking place on the night including fireworks and lightshows to mark the historic occasion.

Although most attention will be turned to the Wexford-Kilkenny game in the third round of the pre-season Walsh Cup competition, many may not be aware that there will be a hurling game preceding this.

A Wexford post-primary schools final will take place between Wexford CBS and Good Counsel College. This is a first year hurling final and it is due to get underway at 4:00pm.

No doubt, this will be a game to remember for these young first year students who will play their part in history on the day.

Tickets are selling fast and can be purchased on Wexford GAA’s website for just €10 for adults, while u-16’s tickets can be purchased for €2.

Meanwhile, Wexford’s fixtures for the upcoming season have been revealed recently. Their Walsh Cup fixtures for 2023, their Allianz Hurling League fixtures, and their Leinster Championship fixtures have all been confirmed.
