Sheeran discussed his new role as Ipswich Town sponsor in a recent interview on Today FM. Interestingly though, he also stated that he “needs to get it on the Wexford jersey… because that’s where everyone is.”

Sheeran is a boyhood Ipswich Town fan, but he also has family in Wexford. In a packed Croke Park back in 2015, Sheeran donned the purple and gold in front of 80,000 fans.

His family remain involved in Gorey Boxing Club, living just on the outskirts of Gorey.

Sheeran also mentioned Wexford in one of his top songs, Nancy Mulligan, where he told a story about his grandfather William Sheeran marrying the woman he loved “down by the Wexford border.”
