Martin Storey Highlights Major Difference Between Darragh Egan And Davy Fitzgerald

A former All-Ireland winning hurler has pinpointed one major difference between Darragh Egan and Davy Fitzgerald…

Davy Fitzgerald was in charge of the Wexford Senior hurling team for five years. Ahead of this year, he stepped away and new manager Darragh Egan came on board.

Egan has since managed to guide his team to four wins out of four in the Allianz National Hurling League, and there is a bit of a buzz around the county about Wexford hurling again.

Speaking to the Irish Independent’s podcast, The Throw-In, Martin Storey highlighted one major difference between the two managers.

“I think the big thing with Darragh is that he’s not afraid to open any avenue to see what will help Wexford hurling. Davy, if it’s a negative that I have about him, is that he liked to control it whereas it’s not about controlling it. It’s about getting as much as you can from everything,” Storey said.

With Darragh Egan willing to bring in anyone who will further Wexford, it does seem like a valid point. To date, he has brought in Billy Walsh, a superstar in the boxing coaching world, and Gordon D’arcy, a former Irish rugby international.

Wexford now stands a great chance of claiming silverware. They’ve made it into the semi-final stages of the Allianz Hurling League, with one game still remaining.
