Wexford Racecourse hosts its latest National Hunt meeting of the season on Tuesday with a competitive seven-race offering over the Jumps…
The card kicks off at 1.37pm as a field of nine take on the two mile maiden hurdle before the meeting comes to a close at 5.05pm with a two mile bumper contest.
Read below for a full rundown of the Wexford card courtesy of BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest Irish Grand National odds.
Up first is a mares maiden hurdle over the two mile trip (1.37) and a field of nine are set to line up at the start. Catchabird is a 15-race maiden so is in with a chance here having hit the frame last time out so show improved form but the nod here goes the way of Shadys Lady for the Declan Queally team, a two-mile winner in bumpers and was placed at Navan 17 days ago with improvement on that run expected.
Race two on the Wexford card sees a good field of 14 take on the two mile maiden hurdle for horses aged four and older (2.12). The Barry Connell-trained Mart Lane looks the way to go in this one, fifth at Thurles 40 days ago and has shown some promising signs of ability in two starts over hurdles so could make it third time lucky here. Blazing Duke rates the next best, a thrice-raced maiden but one of those was a fine fifth at Gowran Park in November and a repat of that form could see him go close at Wexford.
Ten runners will head to post for the two mile handicap hurdle for race three of the afternoon (2.47). Commanche Moon and Harty Cup lock horns once again with the latter getting the better of things at Clonmel last time out, but Commanche Moon now enjoys a significant 10lb swing in the weights so Charles Byrnes’ runner is taken to reverse that Clonmel form.
A field of eight will line up for the two mile handicap hurdle at 3.22 and Give Him A Chance is taken to follow up from landing a 16-runner handicap at Naas last month and defy a 6lb hike in the weights. French recruit Becasse, now in the hands of Henry De Bromhead, could play a key role in this one however, having won back in October 2024 at Fontainebleau though hasn’t been seen since, sent handicapping for the first time here for his shrewd new trainer.
Yoradreamer should have far too much class for the four-runner field in the beginners chase at 3.57 for the all-conquering Willie Mullins and Paul Townend trainer/jockey duo off the back of a strong second at Gowran Park behind King Alexander, who was fourth at 20/1 in the Jack Richards at Cheltenham last week.
The penultimate race of the afternoon at Wexford (4.32) can go the way of Lake Chad, who is without a win in 12 starts but was a very creditable second last time out which was a noticeable uptick in form, while the finale (5.05) sees Minella Machine get the nod for the Henry De Bromhead yard, a huge €350,000 purchase that showed plenty when fourth to Champion Bumper winner The Mourne Rambler last time out at Leopardstown.
