A Wexford Senior hurler has been ruled out of the upcoming Kildare clash…
Keith Rossiter’s Wexford Senior hurling team will take on Kildare this weekend in Newbridge. The match, which throw-in at 6:30pm on Saturday evening, will kick-start the Leinster Senior hurling championship campaign.
Ahead of the game, Wexford have been dealt a blow.
St Martins clubman, Darren Codd, has been ruled out after picking up an injury in the most-recent outing against Kildare. Codd was taken off as a second-half substitute (44 minute mark) against Kildare — and it was later confirmed that he broke his finger, as per a report in the Irish Independent. The St Martins clubman, who enjoyed minutes against Carlow, Antrim, Dublin, Clare, Kildare in this year’s Allianz Hurling League will likely be missing for another two or three weeks as his rehab continues.
Despite that, Wexford Senior hurling fans will be delighted to hear that two long-serving Wexford Senior hurlers will be available for selection against Kildare. Both Jack O’Connor and Liam Ryan will be available for selection. Neither player has received any game-time during the Allianz Hurling League campaign; new captain, O’Connor, had been ruled out with an injury — while Rapparees clubman, Liam Ryan, joined the panel late after an extended breakaway from the squad.
Although Wexford cannot look past their opening clash against Kildare, Wexford fans will be hoping for a win and that the two aforementioned players do receive crucial minutes in the tank ahead of even-bigger tests. In their following clash, Wexford will take on Kilkenny in Nowlan Park. Other clashes against Dublin, Offaly, and Galway will also pose a significant test for Wexford’s hopes of a Leinster Championship dream.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash, Wexford are priced at 2/9 in most major bookmakers to secure the win over Kildare. Meanwhile, for those thinking that Wexford could win their first Leinster Senior hurling title since 2019, they can secure a price of 16/1.
This weekend’s clash against Kildare will not be broadcast live or streamed live on any platform. The only way to watch the Kildare-Wexford game is to attend in person.
