Wexford FC announced their new permanent manager. Former UCD player Ian Ryan will take over the helm at the club.

Ian Ryan has been appointed manager on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Speaking today, Ryan was excited for the club’s prospects ahead:

“The whole challenge really excites me. I think it’s important we take a longer, more sustainable view on things. Ultimately my immediate focus will be to make improvements with the 1st team whilst familiarising myself with the underage structure. Let’s start making Wexford an attractive place to play football, let’s make Ferrycarrig an appealing place for the Wexford public to view an entertaining game and let’s keep our best academy players in the club.

With my background I love to improve teams and individuals.  I am looking for people and players who are hungry and want to achieve their potential, my promise to anyone in the academy is that if they display those characteristics along with the required talent, they will get an opportunity.”

The former Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne and UCD defender succeeds Brian O’Sullivan who left his managerial position in the club just last week.

Wexford FC have confirmed that Jason Goodison and Colin Gregan will continue their roles with the senior coaching staff.

Wexford were agonisingly close to attaining their first points of the season yesterday evening, however, a 94th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for Galway United.

The club are extremely pleased with the appointment of Ian Ryan. They believe Ian’s experience of developing young talent at UCD and Leinster Schools will “now be a great boost for developing young footballers in County Wexford.” Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 1)
