Strong Wexford Contingent Through To Fitzgibbon Cup Final And Will Play UCC

Several Wexford natives represented the county in Saturday’s Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals..

IT Carlow defeated Mary I in the first game on a scoreline of 5-14 to 0-15, while DCU lost out to UCC by the minimum. A last-gasp sideline cut from Cork’s Mark Coleman into a swirling wing saw UCC emerge victorious.

For IT Carlow, Naomh Eanna’s Cathal Dunbar acts as joint-captain, while Seamus Casey, Shane Reck, Michael Redmond, Rory Higgins, Adam Howlin make up the rest of the Wexford representatives.

Dunbar found the net twice this afternoon, while Oylegate’s Seamus Casey scored six points, with four coming from frees.

DCU, with Rory O’Connor, Damien Reck, Conor Firman among others on the team lost out to UCC today in dramatic circumstances, in a game that ended on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-17.

St Martins club-man O’Connor hit eleven points, with ten of those coming from placed balls.

No Wexford natives will be on the UCC panel when they’ll face IT Carlow in the upcoming Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup final.
